How to install fluxbox on ubuntu 10.04

What is Fluxbox ??
A window manager or desktop like XFCE/LDXE/KDE/GNOME..(it’s a lightweight weight desktop environment) for linux based operating system and available free under MIT License.

Install Fluxbox in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

In Ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx) LTS,you can install fluxbox window manager either from Synaptic Package Manager/ubuntu software center or Command Line/terminal/shell.Both of the methods are explained here

Installing fluxbox from Synaptic Package Manager

#1. Open Synaptic Package Manager(Go to System->Administration->SPM) and search for ‘fluxbox’.

#2. Check the small rectangular box(Select the fluxbox package),then click on Apply to begin installation of the selected package.

#3. After few minutes,the installation would be complete..then logout from the current session ..and choose fluxbox from the drop down menu at login prompt to run fluxbox with Ubuntu 10.04.

#4. That’s All..

Run the command(given below) at terminal(CTRL+ALT+T) and read the step 3 for logging into fluxbox desktop.

$ sudo apt-get install fluxbox

Empathy Instant Messenger is already installed(From the beginning itself if you have installed the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx from a  standard Live CD).So to send and receive message go to Applications->Internet->Empathy IM client and enter the account details(gmail,yahoo,facebook….) to begin chat.It does not work only as an instant messenger but you can also enjoy Internet calls(If your friends on the other end have also installed Empathy IM client) and file sharing.

Install GDDCcontrol or DDCcontrol in Ubuntu(10.04(Lucid Lynx)/9.10/..)

#1. Open Synaptic Package Manager and search for “gddccontrol” and mark the result(check the left box and click on mark when small window appears) for installation.

#2. Then click on Apply to install the package.

#3. Wait…. installation will complete within moments..

Installing GDDccontrol from command line

Simply type the following command and enter your login password –

sudo apt-get install gddccontrol

To run gddccontrol simply run the command at terminal-

#2. Then search for “adobe reader” or “acroread” and check the left box for installation.

#3. Next,Click on Apply to install adobe reader on your ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx.

#4. Wait…(~10 minutes)until the installation will complete.In the end will it will ask you whether you want to set the Adobe as Default PDF reader or not,choose YES if you want else NO if you don’t.

#5. Now you are ready to view or print pdf files using Adobe Reader…Right click on any pdf files and then open with Adobe Reader 9.
