As you know – Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 released, with a lot of improvements e.g it’s lighter && faster than it’s previous version (I mean – Ubuntu 11.04 – Natty Narwhal) and changes. Now it’s time for a quick preview, basically a screenshot tour for some of its exciting/cool features or improvements. Since it’s the beta release – there are lot of bugs (believe me it’s very annoying, I use Ubuntu 10.10 for general purpose), so obviously you aren’t going to install it on production machines. On the other hand if you want to do some experiments – then have a look at the screenshots.
Unity is the default desktop, runs on the top of Gnome 3 , so this time – we can easily install Gnome 3 – shell on Ubuntu 11.10 without breaking the Unity.
Features/Changes in Ubuntu 11.10

- Improvements in Ubuntu Software Center

#1 : Ubuntu 11.10 Default Desktop – Unity on Gnome 3.1.5
#2 : Surfing with the default web browser Firefox 7.0 (beta release)
#3 : New look of Ubuntu Software Center
#4 : Systems Settings
#5 : gedit
#6 : Thunderbird
#7 : Unity Panel
#8 : Libreoffice
#9 : Nautilus File Browser
#10 : Unity 2D Desktop (looks almost similar to default one but it doesn’t have fancy Compiz (3D) effects)
Just upgraded from 11.04.
I just had time to get a feel for the desktop alternatives.
GNOME (3) , GNOME CLASSIC (2), UBUNTU(Unity 3D) UBUNTU 2D (Unity 2D)….
… before things started to get messy. Now All I can rely on is a randomly long
period before Unity 3D hangs. 2D is just silly.
But as always, with time.
But my first choice, stability solved, would be GNOME 3 with some cool shell extentions. 🙂
