Kubuntu 10.04 is nothing but the combination of Ubuntu 10.04 and KDE desktop. So application programs or software packages that are installed bydefault is based on kde desktop package. But all other internal structure except some default applications and desktop, kubuntu 10.04 and ubuntu are same.So if you are using kde then you can also install gnome desktop on your computer along with the kde desktop in parallel. Not only desktop you can also use GNOME applications like Gedit(Gnome desktop text editor) or Nautilus(File browser) although KDE has already its own text editor Kwrite and file manager Dolphin.Although KDE is little slower than GNOME desktop but its look is little more pleasant and eye friendly than other desktop such as GNOME or XFCE.

#1.Go to Synaptic Package Manager(If you haven’t install the synaptic package Manager then first install it by using the command – sudo aptitude –without-recommends install synaptic in the terminal/shell) and Search for GNOME.Gnome version 2.30 is the latest stable version and you can install it.First check the box for installation and then click on apply changes to begin the download and installation process.

  1. Kubuntu 10.04 does not come with synaptic package manager, but it does come with KPackageKit (which is not as good imo). When typing in GNOME into the search nothing comes up. However typing gnome in lower-case brings up hundreds of things (mostly language translations for gnome). I am just going to find a command line tutorial because that seems easier at this point.
