This post will explain you – about installing Firefox 4 beta 3 on ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx) by using Synaptic Package Manager and command line. For Linux based platform firefox has released Mindfield Web Browser,as experimental version of firefox 4 beta 3.I think it’s pretty fast than it’s older version due to the hybrid javascript engine – JagerMonkey.

Install Firefox 4 by using Synaptic Package Manager(SPM)

#1. Open SPM and Click on Settings -> Repositories ->Other Software.
#2. Then, click on +Add(Left, bottom) and enter the following address in APT Line (followed by single Add Source)
ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
#3. Next, close the software sources window and Update the package information by clicking on Reload button(In SPM).

#4. Now,Search for ‘firefox 4’ and mark the package for installation which says – ‘firefox 4.0’.(If it asks for other dependencies then click ok)

#5. Then, click on ‘Apply’ to install firefox 4 beta.Within few minutes the installation will complete. Then go to Applications->Internet->Minefield 4.0 Web Browser(Why Minefield ?? Yeah!! This the code name for experimental version of Mozilla ..for Linux platform).
