Install Fluxbox in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

In Ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx) LTS,you can install fluxbox window manager either from Synaptic Package Manager/ubuntu software center or Command Line/terminal/shell.Both of the methods are explained here

Installing fluxbox from Synaptic Package Manager

#1. Open Synaptic Package Manager(Go to System->Administration->SPM) and search for ‘fluxbox’.

#2. Check the small rectangular box(Select the fluxbox package),then click on Apply to begin installation of the selected package.

#3. After few minutes,the installation would be complete..then logout from the current session ..and choose fluxbox from the drop down menu at login prompt to run fluxbox with Ubuntu 10.04.

Run the command(given below) at terminal(CTRL+ALT+T) and read the step 3 for logging into fluxbox desktop.

3. After the completion of downloading,installation process will begin automatically(If you have selected 2nd option in the above step then right click on the file and open with Gdebi package installer).A new window will appear click on install package to begin installation.

Method-B(From Command Line Interface)
1. Open ubuntu terminal or shell from Applications->Accessories->Terminal or Hit CTRL+ALT+T.

2. Run the Following Command(Enter you login password if required)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

3. That’s All..you have installed ubuntu-tweak successfully.

Click on Applications->System Tools->Ubuntu Tweak to start the application(ubuntu tweak).Now select the options from right sidebar and customize you system and desktop settings it in few mouse clicks.

step1 : It can be installed by using synaptic manager or using bash terminal or you can manually download the file fr0m www.xfce.org.Using synaptic manager is the most simple method.Open synaptic package manager(system->administration).Type xfce in search box and mark the box for installing.

step2 : Now click on apply changes.The downloading will be start and after the completion the installation will be automatically start.(It may take 5-10 minutes @512Kb/s)

step3 : After some moments installation will complete successfully.Now log out fr0m the current session,and choose xfce session(options is on the bottom of screen at login prompt) to log in.

step4 : That’s all.Now you can choose whatever desktop you want(GNOME/XFCE/KDE..) at the login prompt and log in to enjoy.
